Myth: Liberal policies ruined California's economy.
seedling article
This article is incomplete. It might be useful as a reference, but avoid offering it as a definitive presentation. It needs more specific claims that liberal policies were responsible for economic downturn in CA. For instance, bigphil303 implies that free education is something that will cause the government to "eventually run out of money"; this should be explicitly noted in the "Myth" section. Also, a fact-check on "releasing violent offenders to save money" would be good, as well as a note that this would be the result of right-wing "austerity" policies if true.

The Myth

Examples

  • "I believe you are mistaken about Cali [being the world's 8th largest economy]. Cali is in severe financial trouble. In fact they are releasing violent offenders from prison to save money. Not sure where you are getting your facts from but everything i read states that Cali was doing really well in the late 90's but now they are really struggling." [1]

Reality

California had an economic crisis along with the rest of the world during the 2008 worldwide recession, and recovered as the US economy in general did. As of 2013 or earlier, it was once again the largest economy in the US[2].

Undefeated by being wrong so far, right-wingers continue to claim that liberal policies will ruin California.
