Usage
This is partly a more catchy version of the "Criminals don't obey laws" irrelevancy.
It is also partly a straw man argument in that the overwhelming majority of gun control proposals in the US are not advocating anything like a total ban but more something akin to the regulations currently in place in Switzerland – not even the far more effective (and strict) regulation in place across most of the rest of Europe.
