Can we agree that this is both bonkers *and* hateful? To put it in Nextdoor terms, supporting these kinds of beliefs is both uncivil and highly unneighborly.

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has joined those pushing the baseless assertion that the mass shooter in Uvalde, Texas, was transgender or at least gender-nonconforming — and she has also claimed that there’s a plot to turn everyone gay or trans.

Another Republican member of Congress, Paul Gosar of Arizona, tweeted last week that the shooter was “a transsexual leftist illegal alien.” Gosar eventually deleted the message. Other right-wing politicians and commentators have falsely claimed the shooter was trans.

“They just want you to think that all of a sudden the entire population is steadily turning gay or turning trans,” Greene said. “Just generation, generation, generation. … Probably in about four or five generations, no one will be straight anymore. Everyone will be either gay or trans or nonconforming or whatever the list of 50 or 60 different options there are.”

It's one thing when your crazy Uncle Walter says it, but quite another when a member of Congress says it -- and then people start to believe it.

I would very much like to see the GOP-supporters in this group condemning this sort of thing. Silence is tacit complicity.
