Not a single Republican senator voted against the Republican-sponsored Homeland Security Act, which created the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). One Republican did not vote (not sure if this was an abstention or if the senator was not present for the vote).

Senate vote:

  • Of the 9 votes against, one was an Independent and the rest were Democrats.

House vote:

  • R: 207 for, 10 against
  • D: 88 for, 120 against
