About

The idea or accusation of Ideological motivation is often used as an argument by label to dismiss an opposing position without examining it. Its usage implies or presumes, without stating up front, that:

  • the goals motivating said position are at best arbitrary, and possibly intended solely to serve the interests of some power-group.
  • there is no rational basis for holding the position, no rational merit to the position.

Variants:

  • "ideologically motivated"
  • "ideological thinking"
