General techniques for dealing with trolls and idealogues...

• Proportional response: Try not to spend more effort composing your response than they spent on their trolling. If you've got evidence and sources, hold off presenting them until challenged. A naked assertion from a troll doesn't deserve more than a naked assertion in response. Never give a troll an even break. Make them spend time and effort for every bit of time and effort they get from you.
• Streisand attack: The troll is trying to cast doubt on your position and to suppress further discussion of it – so you can discourage them by making their comments backfire: talk more about the position you're advocating. Turn your response into a miniature brochure for your position, going into a bit more detail and totally ignoring the troll's attempt to make you doubt it. Again, there's no need to research each point you make until it's challenged; if you're not certain, it's okay to qualify your statements with "my understanding is" or "I've heard". Take the battle of laziness to the enemy. Make them lose more ground than they gained.
