Hoist By Her Own Petard?

  • 2020-10-01 01:11 @elcome2ell Gender identity Ideology harms women and children. It also harms trans people. We end up trying to build our lives on wishful thinking, and belief in "magical invisible properties". No wonder many of us are so fearful and defensive, and lack confidence in society.

This is by Dr. Debbie Hayton, a trans woman physics professor who... well:

So we have her saying that one's gender identity shouldn't be respected, and that biological sex is all that matters. So by her own logic, I should be calling her "him" and "a man".

Hayton's tweet inspired the following discussion:

...except Hayton's position is that trans women men-who-dress-as-women such as herself should be addressed that way, so...

...how is this transphobic?

"Biological Gender" Again

Guess the biology of her brain doesn't count.

Also, they clearly haven't compared notes with the Gender Criticals, who call it "biological sex", see gender as the enemy, and apparently don't understand what "biological gender" might mean.

"Silenced" = "Given Privileged Access"

It's almost like the court has decided what conclusion they want to reach, and have found the group that will give them the evidence to support that conclusion.

Um What

I'm not quite sure what Wendy is arguing here. I think the original poster is saying it's not ok for people to have aesthetic preferences in their partner's genitalia, which is a viewpoint I've heard but which is just wrong (and does not reflect the consensus among the trans community).

If that's the case, Wendy seems to be thinking that this viewpoint is in danger of being enshrined in law -- which is ridiculous: what would such a law even enforce?

Gender-Critical-led disinformation prevents trans people from getting meds

I wasn't initially sure what this was about:

  • 2020-10-07 14:14 @GenderGP As a result of the recent negative press attention our prescribing chemist has been told they are unable to fulfil the prescriptions of the thousands of trans patients who use GenderGP.

...but Oliver has explained it here (thread)

Basically, the media heard one side of the story (the "silenced" side) and ran with it.

...and this is the result:

  • 2020-10-08
    • 3000 Transgender People Set To Lose Medication In U.K. Pharmacy Regulator Row (via)
    • Concerns relating to Clear Chemist
      • 10:39 @TheGPhC We wanted to share the statement we’ve published today in relation to the concerns raised about Clear Chemist and the actions we are taking
        • 12:47 @Tara_Hewitt Awful statement from GPHC making clear some in medical establishment are clear trans peoples health & wellbeing isn't a priority against rising anti trans ideology. Cisgender leaders in healthcare if you are allies you need to challenge these people as trans people are powerless
          • 13:27 @FierceMum The systemic weight of institutional prejudice continues to bear down on trans communities; especially on trans children & adolescents. Establishment organisations fail to protect trans kids one after the other. It is becoming impossible to protect our daughter here in the UK.

...and they insist on seeing that as a positive:

  • 2020-10-08 13:41 @intersexfacts It's interesting to see how angry trans activists are that the General Pharmaceutical Council has taken steps to safeguard children and adults with dysphoria and ensure they receive appropriate medical care.

No, you asshole -- it means they are unable to receive appropriate medical care.

  • 2020-10-08 10:30 @BigBillMoon This is key, I think. Teenagers are described as ‘competent to give consent’ while also ‘suicidal and in great distress’. / Can’t really have it both ways.

YES YOU BLOODY WELL CAN. This is taking away the agency of suicidal people, which MAKES THINGS WORSE.

Is This Even a Thing

  • 2020-10-08 13:22 @Manaxium I don’t want to see transwomen steal women’s spots claiming to be the “first woman” to achieve something. It’s shameful. I want to be proud to say someone was the first transwoman to achieve it. / There’s something wrong with transactivism that wants to erase our achievements.

Why is it shameful?

All Women Breastfeed and Bear Children, Apparently

  • 2020-10-15 12:03 @drawnoutofshape You think I'm kidding, don't you?
    • screencap of @wahidizm tweet: Trans women are males. They do not bear children, breastfeed, hail from a divine feminine, house a sacred passage, sacrifice blood, sync w phases, flow in flux w universe. They just want the superficial benefits of a social construct but don't bear the stripes.

Further discussion here.

If Acknowledging Reality Is the Price of Admission, I'm Out

  • 2020-10-15 10:43 @DPJHodges I’m actually sympathetic to those arguing for Trans rights. But if the benchmark for support is I have to pretend people like Rosie Duffield and JK Rowling are bigots, then forget it. I’m out.

Dude, you don't have to pretend. JKR has repeatedly spread hateful misinformation about trans people.

Protect Children Whether or Not They Want It

  • 2020-10-21 01:27 @CarolT52973604

    Hello Projection.

You are the right-wing, regressive misogynists.

Your hatred for women and girls shines out of everything you say and do.

You've just spent a day trying to undermine child safeguarding.

    Shame on you.

There was at least some good pushback, before and after.

  • 2020-10-24 20:53 @HelloBakeneko Trans-women promote oppressive gender norms. They tie femininity to womanhood. They define being a woman as liking "girly things." That's why cis-girls who don't like those "girly things" come out as "non-binary," b/c the binary has been strengthened by the transgender movement.

Trans women express themselves in different ways. Some go for hyperfemininity, often because that is what feels right to them but also often because they feel they have to in order to "fit in" -- and sometimes, medical professionals will insist on this as proof of need to transition.

Trans people are not, by their existence, trying to impose their personal ideals of femininity on anyone else -- nor should cis people, by saying that trans people are either "too feminine" or "not really trying".

Because of Course Trans Activists Caused This

Most of the lies were coming from people like you, who chose this opportunity to misgender a suicide victim and to try to deny help to others in his situation, but whatevs.
