About

Nextdoor is a proprietary "hyperlocal" social network with an unusually strict but also vague set of rules regarding what speech is permitted. They will often suspend users for infractions of these rules, even when said infractions would be tolerated even in the safest of spaces or on the largest and most corporate of commercial social networks such as Facebook or Twitter.

This combination of vagueness and strictness is often abused by bullies and trolls to suppress speech they don't like.

The following codes may be used to reference comment-material which could result in suspension if actually spelled out:

  • ND/0001 cursing, especially in the presence of reportophilic hostiles
  • ND/0002 criticizing beliefs, or criticizing people for holding those beliefs
  • ND/0003 ridiculing political positions, policies, proposals, politicians, or pundits
  • ND/0004 discussing moderation outside of specific groups approved for this purpose. This includes mentions of being suspended (in actuality or hypothetically) or discussing reported content.
