Myth: Republicans didn't protest when Obama won the election

Myth

The argument goes that Republicans didn't protest when Barack Obama won the presidential election (which he did twice: 2008 and 2012), therefore protests against Donald Trump's victory in the 2016 election are unwarranted or unfair.

Reality

Yes, they did. A lot.

A Google search for the period of 2008-08-01 to 2009-01-19 (roughly the peak campaign period through immediately prior to inauguration) shows over 52,000 results. Among the results on the first page are:
