Texas Senate Bill 1646, introduced 2021-03-29, would have defined giving kids puberty blockers "for the purpose of gender transitioning or gender reassignment" as child-abuse. Note that it specifically excludes (a) intersex kids and (b) uses other than transgender therapy; it is therefore squarely targeted at transgender kids. | Texas Senate Bill 1646, introduced 2021-03-29, would have defined giving kids puberty blockers "for the purpose of gender transitioning or gender reassignment" as child-abuse. This bill was signed into law in March, and will take effect 2021-07-01.
NC: Multiple bills
From the Human Rights Campaign:
- HB 358 would ban transgender girls from playing sports that match their gender identity.
- SB 514 would prohibit transgender people under the age of 21 from receiving best practice, medically necessary and affirming care while penalizing medical providers. It would also force government officials like teachers to notify parents if students demonstrate gender nonconforming behavior, and it would expressly protect the dangerous and discredited practice of conversion therapy.
- SB 515 would allow any medical provider to discriminate against patients by allowing providers the option to refuse care to anyone to whom they morally object to on the basis of conscience.
...and also, being gay is apparently still not ok in NC:
- 2021-04-13 Grooms turned away from wedding venue in North Carolina for precisely the reason you might expect
TX SB 1646: Trans Care = Abuse
Texas Senate Bill 1646, introduced 2021-03-29, would have defined giving kids puberty blockers "for the purpose of gender transitioning or gender reassignment" as child-abuse. Note that it specifically excludes (a) intersex kids and (b) uses other than transgender therapy; it is therefore squarely targeted at transgender kids.
The bill appears to have died by being "left pending in committee", but there's nothing to stop parts of it from being re-introduced into other legislation.
