The question I see here is whether GOP voters will continue to shoot themselves in the foot for the sake of "owning the libs" like this (by voting for the sort of people who will pull this kind of political stunt). How much damage are they willing to inflict on themselves for the sake of "winning"?

The answer, unfortunately, is probably "yes" and "quite a lot". These are, after all, the same people who support keeping healthcare expensive just to be sure that more of the "wrong people" can't afford it.
